Performance for trombone, space and performer with OKM (Originalkopfmikrofon) and loudspeaker

On the occasion of the Niemandsland Festival in Baden.

Our memories of experiences are tied to places or create a virtual space. Accordingly, places also evoke memories.
In a dialogue, the experienced spaces become narrators once again. Impressions remain as an echo, resonances of memory.

Oreade is a performance that exists in two forms: as a solo performance and as a performance for a trombonist and up to three performers with loudspeakers. The piece deals with both the space and the media used. The trombone is the sound source. Few pitches are played, but long notes with sometimes long pauses in between. The other performers (or the trombonist in the solo version) carry a loudspeaker on their back and an original head microphone in their ear. The microphone transmits the sound as it reaches the wearer's ear, delayed by a few seconds, to the loudspeaker of the same performer. This creates a kind of delayed feedback, which can be controlled by the position of the performer in the various rooms.
In this way, locations in the room can be sought out that emphasise certain room modes. This effectively filters the sound of the trombone, or rather amplifies its overtones. The architecture of the room is thus reproduced on a sonic level.
