As performers, we place ourselves at the service of the medium, which communicates with itself both physically intangible through the connection established via Skype over the internet and physically tangible through the properties of the loudspeaker and microphone.
In their play ‘I skype you skype me,’ Lilian Beidler and Cyrill Lim slowly move towards each other from the edges of the stage. They hold two laptops in front of them, which communicate with each other via the internet telephone software Skype. Gradually, feedback sounds set in, which they can control by slightly turning the computers. The paradox of the piece: despite the data connection via the internet, sound only arises through physical proximity."
