ever become again – by Lilian Beidler and Cyrill Lim – consists of three sculptural images that relate to each other on different levels
ever consists of a small music box operated by a perforated tape. This tape is glued together at both ends, so the perforated melody forms a loop. The recipients can play the music box by turning its crank.
become is a digital photo frame that shows a photo of an inactive digital wristwatch.
again is a tablet, about 30 × 22 cm, made from cotton wool and cress seeds. During the exhibition, the cress plants will be growing and will gradually deform the word “sound”.
Ideally the three sculptural pictures hang on one wall with an interspace of about one meter.
The work focuses on time, which is an intrinsic and essential part of our process-oriented work as musicians and media artists.
This work was created specifically for an exhibition at the PenClub Gallery in Budapest. The exhibition is curated by the Hungarian Multicultural Centre, whose only requirement was that the work had to fit into a 9 x 12 inch envelope. Fascinated by this requirement, a triplet was created that addresses both ‘sound’ – and thus time – as well as our system of symbols and the relationships and contrasts between material and media.
